SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KCBS) -- An ongoing Alcatraz ferry labor dispute spilled over into an annual Native American ceremony this morning. Every Columbus Day a ceremony is held on Alcatraz, but this year participants were greeted by a crowd of protestors.
The problems started two weeks ago when the National Parks Service switched ferry service from Blue and Gold, which had a union, to the non-union Hornblower. Dock workers claim they were not offered jobs with the new company, although Hornblower denies that accusation. The former workers have have been in a labor dispute ever since.
